Clawford is a private 78 acre estate, situated in the peaceful & tranquil setting of the Claw Valley in the rolling hills of the glorious Devon countryside. Clawford enjoys a warm southerly aspect with superb views of the vineyards, orchards, woods and lakes. Bodmin Moor can be seen to the South West. The perfect choice for a quiet, stress free break. |

Over the past twenty years, Clawford has developed into a mature, natural sanctuary for wildlife, with diverse habitats. Throughout the year numerous birds, butterflies, and animals can be seen. In Spring, Hares can be seen in the orchards and to the front of the house. During apple blossom time, flocks of Goldfinches and Bullfinches can be seen in the orchards. Autumn heralds the arrival of Redwing's and Fieldfares in the orchards. |
The arrival of Spring brings the 6 acre ancient wood to life with carpets of bluebell's & primroses. Clawford has an abundance of wild flowers, lichens, damselflies, butterflies & dragonflies up to the early Winter months. On a hot Summers day, listen to the skylark singing as it climbs high into the sky, listen to the buzzards calling as they soar on the thermals and marvel at the swallows as they skim across the lakes taking a drink on the wing and then soaring into the sky after a hatch of insects. |
Kingfishers frequent the lakeside trees and are often seen hovering above the lakes & occasionally perch on anglers rods. At dusk, watch the Barn owls hunting in the vineyard & orchards in the comfort of the Vineyard Restaurant. |
Don't be surprised when a cheeky Chaffinch or Robin arrives at your swim and becomes your fishing companion.
Watch the Wrens and Reed Warblers combing the reed beds for insects. Indeed, a bird watchers, nature lovers & a real anglers paradise. |
After a day out, return to a delicious home cooked meal in the restaurant then retire to the bar for a quiet drink or a game of pool. Perhaps sit outside in the beer garden or the patio area & look at the activity in & around the lakes. |
On a warm, still, spring and summer evening, relax in the restaurant and try one of Wanda's legendary steaks, Rack of Ribs or Gammon Steaks. Relax and listen to the distant peel of the Clawton church bells on practice nights. |
During the cold
winter evenings, return to the welcoming warmth of a roaring wood
fire.
Enjoy a game of Spoof in front of the wood burning stove or retire to the 'Fisherman's Cove' for a game of cards, sit and watch the activity in the big aquarium, and let your mind wonder. After your meal, perhaps enjoy a glass of good wine or a fine Port in front of the fire and enjoy the company. |
